When you have Brad Pitt, Lawrence Fishburne and even Nelson Mandela encouraging you to wear this bangle bracelet, what other endorsements do you need?

The 46664 bracelet supports the work that the Nelson Mandela Foundation is doing to eradicate HIV/AIDS in Africa and around the world. His cause has been taken up by many, including the likes of Will Smith and Peter Gabriel, who reminds us that more than 25 million people are currently infected with HIV/AIDS, and that women are now six times more likely to contract AIDS than others. If you knew that buying an attractive $25 bracelet could help save the lives of children born to women with AIDS -- and that wearing it could help raise awareness among friends and family that ground-breaking medical research was being done -- wouldn't that be a worthwhile purchase?

The 46664 bracelet bears Nelson Mandela's prison number -- 46664 -- which was assigned to him when he was imprisoned on Robben Island in 1964. The movement was originally launched to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, and continues to work in the area of HIV prevention — especially in South Africa. However, working alongside the other Mandela organizations, 46664 is now expanding its focus to champion Mr. Mandela's broader humanitarian work.

The bangles are made in South Africa in copper, silver, gold and platinum and engraved with the digital imprint of Mr. Mandela's hand. Every bangle has a unique serial number on the inside that, after you register it on their website, allows the owner to track the positive impact of their purchase. From the crafters who hand-finish the metal to the previously unemployed people who assemble the boxes they are shipped in, this product is sustaining the local economy by building skills among the workers and providing assistance to the ill in these communities.

This video explains what the bangle production process has come to mean to many in South Africa.

We think Lance Armstrong's LIVESTRONG campaign was one of the first to make "cause" jewelry a hip fashion statement. And hip or not, it works. A donation at any level is a great contribution to Mandela's life's work. Depending on which material you select, prices are $24.95 in copper, $199 in silver, $5,800 in 18-carat gold, $8,700 in 24-carat gold, $16,100 in platinum.  Select your size, small or large depending on wrist size and wear it in good health.

The bracelet does look lovely and I even thought that it was made from gold, but from the price it seems that it's not.
