Teachers Discounts Apply in Omaha and Beyond with $99/N Family Rooms

With an award-winning zoo, unique museums, historic landmarks and two nearby state parks, Omaha, Nebraska is an alluring Midwestern metropolis with much to offer traveling teachers and their families.

For the educator who seeks both the leisure and inspiration of Omaha before returning to the classroom in September, the Magnolia Hotel is offering a special “ABCs of Summer” discount travel package. By simply presenting a school identification card, educators will receive 20% off accommodations, two complimentary apple martinis and complimentary suite upgrades (based on availability).

There's a lot happening in Omaho this season. From June 19 – 30, teachers traveling wth teens and fans from all over will fill Rosenblatt Stadium as their favorite schools battle it out to become the NCAA baseball champions. The exciting atmosphere of the College World Series is family friendly and should not be missed. For ticket information, check www.ticketmaster.com or contact the Omaha Visitor’s Center by calling 402/444-4511.

In 2004, Reader’s Digest ranked Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo as the number 1 zoo in America. Grab the family and encounter leopards, monkeys and more in the zoo’s 123,000-square-foot indoor rainforest before making your way through the Desert Dome – the world’s largest indoor arid landscape.

Although Omaha is non-coastal, you’ll discover an ocean of fun in the zoo’s Kingdoms of the Seas Aquarium. This building features over 71,000 square-feet of diverse aquatic habitat including a polar region, coral reefs and even a 70-foot shark tunnel. On May 7, 2010, the zoo unveiled “Expedition Madagascar” which houses 15 exhibits that display the exotic island’s many plant and animal species. The Henry Doorly Zoo is open daily from 9:30am until 5pm. Admission is $11.50 for adults, $10.00 for seniors and $7.75 for children ages 3-11.

The Omaha Children’s Museum aims to engage curious youngsters to age 10 through a number of fun, hands-on exhibits. The museum’s Imagination Playground is a toddler-friendly town complete with an interactive farm, firehouse, and supermarket. In the Science and Technology Learning Lab, kids wear lab coats, use real microscopes and perform a number of safe scientific experiments that will both inspire and delight. In the summer months, kids can cool down in the fountain and sprays of Sandy’s Splish Splash Garden.

If you are in Omaha on June 26, July 10 and July 24, be sure to join OCM as they celebrate Clifford the Big Red Dog's birthday. Admission to the Omaha Children’s Museum is $7.00 for everyone ages 2 – 59 and $6.oo for seniors. Consult the museum’s website for a schedule of the museum’s hours. We suggest grabbing breakfast or lunch before visiting OCM as there are few restaurants in and around the museum.
