$10 Family Travel This Summer with VIA Rail Canada

VIA Rail, Canada's national passenger rail service, is inviting you to bring the whole family along to bask in the beauty of the Canadian countryside from the comfort and convenience of the rail.

Only through September 10, 2010, travelers will pay only $10 for each child (up to five kids ages 2-11) with the purchase of an Economy class adult, 60+, youth or student ticket.

The rail company is making it cheaper than ever to explore Canada’s busiest corridor, as well as the remote and rural regions of the country-all with your family in tow. 

In addition to their current kid-friendly (and budget-friendly) promotion, VIA Rail provides year-round children’s discounts and a variety of on-board entertainment options from activity books and games to kid’s menus and an organized “kiddies hour” on its flagship Canadian – offering enjoyable distractions from the dreaded “are we there yet?” plea.

VIA Rail’s on-board services and amenities for children include kids menus on long-distance trains, healthy snacks, a take-out counter, and a rolling cart. Cardboard train cut-outs and Kids’ Activity Books are available on most trains and aboard VIA’s Canadian, games, activities and video screenings are organized in the domed Skyline car every morning.

During the summer months on VIA’s Eastern overnight Ocean service between Montréal and Halifax, a dedicated Learning Coordinator presents mini-lectures to help guide travelers into the Maritime region – a wonderful way to combine learning with leisure for the kids.

VIA Rail staff are trained in first aid, CPR and emergency response procedures but it is important to accompany children at all times, especially when moving between train cars.
