What if I don’t hear from you?

If you applied for a 2019 Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Scholarship and haven’t heard from us by August 20, 2019, it means that you are not in the running for a scholarship award this time around. Applicants should be sure to look at MyFamilyTravels.com after September 22, 2019 so you can read the winning travel blogs.

If I am a Finalist does that mean I’ve won?

If you are selected as a Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Scholarship Finalist, it means you are being considered for a cash scholarship or honorable mention award. You will be contacted between August 20 and September 6, 2019 and asked to submit a permission letter or email from your parents if you are under 18, and an official school transcript in order to be eligible. Documents must be submitted by September 6, 2019.

I am a home-schooled student. Can I participate in the Scholarship contest?

Yes, but you must be able to send us an official transcript if you are a Finalist for the Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Scholarship.

Are international students eligible for Family Travel Forum scholarships?

If you are attending a junior high or high school in either Canada or the United States, or an International American or military-sponsored school abroad, you are considered eligible for a Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Scholarship.

What about the winners?

Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Writing Scholarship Finalists will be contacted between August 20 and September 6, 2019. The winners of the 2019 Family Travel Teen Travel Writing Scholarship will be selected by a panel of educators, professional journalists and editors. All winners will be notified by personal email by September 22, 2019 and publicly announced on MyFamilyTravels.com on September 25, 2019. All submissions become the property of Family Travel Forum Inc. and materials will not be returned.

What is a Parent’s Consent Form for Finalists under 18 years of age?

The Parent(s) written consent is only required from Finalists under the age of 18 at time of submitting their entry. It should be a simple note, signed and dated, that says your parent or legal guardian agrees to Family Travel Forum’s posted Scholarship Rules and Terms of Use and has given you permission to enter the Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Writing Scholarship contest. This consent must be submitted to our office only by Finalists by September 6, 2019. It may be sent to us by email or snail mail at the contact information posted online.

If I win, how will my prizes be provided to me?

All Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Scholarship prize money will be paid directly to the winning author. The Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing scholarship prize money check, Honorable Mention certificates and any travel gifts will be mailed to your place of residence. Please let us know of any email or snail mail address changes.

How do I submit my Scholarship entry?

  • Submit your Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing blog, images or video by filling out the online Scholarship Submission Form.
  • You will have to fill in the travel blog title and, since we read a lot of these, please make it a strong, descriptive title.
  • You are asked for your full name, date of birth, phone number and school contact information.
  • Then you will be asked to select the destination of your trip.
  • We recommend you write your scholarship submission on your computer and back it up, then copy it from your word processing program and paste it into the Content field. You can also just type the travel blog into the space provided.
  • Then, add the required photo(s). If you want to submit a video, enter its URL at the bottom of your essay and we will take add it to your blog post.
  • Review your work and press the Submit button, which will SAVE it to the site for judging. Please note requirements for content in the Content field and the Contact Information fields before saving your post, or you will see an error message asking you to complete them.
  • Please email questions to us via the Contact Us page. No phone calls please.

How do I submit my photos, artwork or videos?

Each scholarship submission form accepts up to four images with a file size of 2MB or less each, approximately 1200 pixels by 800 pixels in dimension. If you are having trouble uploading images, please use photo management software to check the file size, then resize and save image to your hard drive before attempting to upload again. When you upload a photo or electronic scan of your artwork to a website, make sure the photo file name is all one word (for example, image cannot be saved as “my school portrait.jpg” or “DSC 0034.gif”; it must be “myschoolportrait.jpg” or “DSC_0034.gif” – without quote marks.) MyFamilyTravels.com accepts .jpg, .gif and .png image files. Please add a descriptive caption in the space available. For videos – Please paste the URL into the bottom of the text of your story and we will embed it for you.

What if I have computer problems and miss the deadline?

All Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing submissions must be received by 11:59pm ET on July 12, 2019. Please submit your entry at least one week prior to the deadline to avoid causing the server outages we have experienced when everyone tries to submit at the last minute. Family Travel Forum is not responsible for your equipment malfunction, problems with your internet connections or any other excuses.

When is the entry deadline?

The deadline is 11:59PM ET Friday, July 12, 2019 for the 2019 Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Scholarships.

How will Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing submissions be judged?

FTF Teen Travel Writing blogs will be read and ranked by a team of educators, seasoned travel writers and professional editors. Finalist entries are a result of a process of elimination as blogs are read and scored at several points.

What style is most appropriate for Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing blogs?

Judges will evaluate Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing submissions based on creativity, originality, style and grammar, so any style is appropriate. Please proofread your work carefully. Scholarship blogs must be submitted in English.

How long should entries be?

FTF Teen Travel Writing blogs should not exceed 600 words. There is no minimum word count.

Who is eligible for the Family Travel Forum Scholarship?

Any high school student or 8th grade student attending school in the United States or Canada, or an American school abroad, or being home-schooled under state guidelines, is eligible to enter the Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Scholarship contest as long as they are 13 to 18-years of age and currently enrolled in school.
