Theme Park Destinations
Browse some of the best offers on admission and accommodations in some of the biggest theme park cities in America.
As rising fuel costs continue to inflate the bill for drive-to theme park family vacations, the parks themselves are rethinking how to attract visitors, and in some cases, even lowering prices. In the meantime, Internet-savvy families can be proactive by researching the wealth of discounts available on multiple park admission tickets, accommodations, and other attractions in destination theme park cities.
Here's a sampling of some of FTF's picks to get you started.
Anaheim/Southern California
Southern California has its own lion's share of major theme parks, and now there's a version of the popular CityPass that covers an area from Hollywood to San Diego. The Southern California CityPass covers a 3-day Park Hopper Pass for Disneyland and Disneyland's California Adventure, 1-day at Universal Studios Hollywood, 1-day at SeaWorld San Diego, and a choice of 1-day at the San Diego Zoo or the zoo's Wild Animal Park. At $259/adult and $219/child ages 3-9-years-old, the pass racks up a savings of $100 and is valid for 14 consecutive days. And let's face it, this is one of the most all-encompassing CityPasses we've ever seen!
San Antonio, Texas
Over in Texas, let's not forget the useful, well-organized, long-running S.A.V.E. Coupon Book. The San Antonio Vacation Experience book is available from the city of San Antonio, where Six Flags Fiesta Texas, SeaWorld San Antonio, 20 other attractions and 49 hotels are offering real discounts. Order it in advance at (800/THE-ALAMO) or look online at www.sanantoniovisit.com for even more discounts and coupons.
Orlando, Florida
And of course, the Orlando Preferred Visitor Magicard is still a great program, offering up to $500 in savings at assorted hotels, restaurants and local attractions. You can pick it up for free at the local Official Visitors Center (800/551-0181 or 407/363-5872, 8723 International Drive, Suite 101, Orlando, FL 32819), or order or print your own beforehand, online, at www.orlandoinfo.com, which also has myriad links to brokers of discounted theme park passes.
If entry to multiple theme parks is your number one priority in Orlando, try the Orlando Flexiticket, available through these broker sites. The Disney parks aren't part of this one, but both of the Universal Studios parks, Sea World, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, and the Wet 'n Wild water park are all available on an unlimited basis for 14-day period. Parking discounts apply, too.
Williamsburg, Virginia
Moving North from Orlando to another cluster of theme parks and historical attractions around Williamsburg, there's no shortage of park entrance and vacation discounts. The Cadillac of them all is the 7-For-1 Williamsburg Flex Ticket, available in the summer months for up to 14 consecutive days of admission to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestowne, Yorktown Battlefield, Yorktown Victory Center, and Water Country USA ($171.45 for adults, $131.95 for kids ages 6-17-years-old, children 6-years-old and under are free). These special tickets are available as part of vacation packages; for more information, visit www.goWilliamsburg.com or call (800/211-7165 or 800/446-9244). Also, Busch Gardens and Water County USA sell their own Vacation Pass at $69.95 for ages 3-years-old and over valid for 7 days of admission anytime during the parks' operating season.
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
Finally, let's not forget Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, home of Dollywood and gateway to Smoky Mountains National Park. With full acknowledgement that fuel costs may make a strain on theme park visitors' wallets, the Pigeon Forge Value Card is available free of charge at the city's Welcome Center (800/251-9100, PO Box 1390-I, Pigeon Forge, TN 37868). This card provides discounts on accommodations, entertainment (including a variety of dinner theater options), and shopping.
And don't forget to check in at official tourism and CVB websites for whatever theme park cities you're visiting. You can often find new and continuing discount passes and packages.

Of Harry Potter in Universal Studious Orlando Florida.
It should open in the Spring of 2010
